The Go-To Base

January 30, 2016

When it comes to my base I like to keep things simple, fairly minimal. I used to love wearing thick foundations that would cover every single imperfection on my face and leave my skin a completely blank canvas, while making me look extremely cakey in the process. Now I like to opt for a lighter base and then using concealer to cover up anything like blemishes or those pesky under eye circles.

My new favorite base of right now is the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream, yes this is my first BB cream, I am way too late to this party. But I love it, it gives just the right amount of coverage to even out my complexion yet not looking heavy at all. I don't know if this is just me but it feels really refreshing when I put it on my skin, kind of cold which I don't appreciate so much in the early mornings before Uni but it does help to perk me that little bit more. It feels nice, not too dewy but still gives a glow to the skin which I absolutely love. When my skin is looking a little rough I will swap this out for a foundation like the Max Factor Facefinity Foundation but for every day the BB cream wins purely for the ease of application and the no-fuss coverage it gives.

Then to cover up any imperfections, mainly my horrible under eye circles I use the Urban Decay Naked Concealer. This stuff claims to be full coverage and I don't 100% agree with it, sure it covers up my dark circles great but I still need to use a corrector underneath to fully cover them up. I have the shade fair neutral which is a shade or two lighter than my actual skin colour which makes it perfect for highlighting under the eyes. It feels so light as well, after using the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer for so long is was strange at first to have a consistency that was so much thinner than I was used to that was able to cover everything up just the same. I also use this down my nose and just under my cheekbone to try and attempt to contour, but as always fail miserably.

These two products work so well together, I can get flawless coverage on the places where I need it yet allow other parts of my skin to breathe and not be caked in unnecessary makeup. Plus skipping foundation for a BB cream makes my entire morning routine so much quicker as I don't have to spend time making sure everything is perfectly blended out, woo!
